We Are About to Witness the Longest Solar Eclipse of the Century

A rare total solar eclipse is coming on August 2, 2027, and it is already being described as one of the most spectacular sky events of the century. During totality, the Moon will completely cover the Sun, turning daylight into twilight and revealing the Sun’s outer atmosphere, known as the corona. The event will be visible across parts of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

What makes this eclipse extraordinary is its length. NASA’s eclipse data gives the greatest duration as 6 minutes and 23.2 seconds, making it the longest total solar eclipse on easily accessible land in the 21st century. The best viewing region will be in Egypt, with the longest duration occurring in the country’s south.
