British holidaymakers heading to Europe face warnings of exceptionally long airport queues as the EU’s new biometric Entry/Exit System meets its first peak summer season. Aviation leaders say waits could reach between three and six hours at severely congested border points.
Six-hour delays are a risk forecast rather than the normal experience at every airport. Most journeys continue without extreme disruption, but queues and missed connections have already been reported as fingerprints, facial images and passport data are collected from non-EU travellers.
