Chinese dragons are the most dominant and significant symbols in Chinese culture since they signify strength, wisdom, protection, and good fortune. Chinese dragons are regarded as good and in close relationship with nature and particularly water and weather unlike the western dragons who are usually depicted as destructive. They are found in myths, art, festivals, architecture and even the historical imperial imagery. Since thousands of years, the dragon used to be the representation of harmony between heaven and earth, as well as between heaven and people. It is a symbol of balance, prosperity and power and thus a mythical monster is more than a mythical creature, it is an element of the culture, beliefs and national identity.
