Something Huge Is Buried Inside Our Galaxy — and Scientists Didn’t Expect It

The Milky Way looks familiar because it is our cosmic home, but astronomers are still discovering that it may be more complicated than it appears. A new study suggests that something ancient may be hidden inside it: the remains of a dwarf galaxy that was swallowed long ago and left behind clues in a small group of unusual stars.

The object has been nicknamed “Loki,” and the name fits the mystery. Scientists are not looking at a complete galaxy shining in the sky. They are reading chemical traces, strange orbits, and old stellar fingerprints that may reveal a lost galaxy buried inside our own.
