Archaeologists Find 80-Ton Stones Beneath the Sea From One of the Seven Wonders

For centuries, the Lighthouse of Alexandria has existed in the strange space between history and imagination. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, yet most people today know it through descriptions, drawings, coins, and ruins hidden beneath the Mediterranean.

Now, pieces of that lost monument have come back into view. Archaeologists have raised 22 massive stone blocks from the seabed off Alexandria, including elements weighing between 70 and 80 tons, giving researchers a rare chance to study and digitally reconstruct one of antiquity’s most famous structures.
