Average weight can be useful, but it can also be misleading if it is treated like a personal target. A woman’s weight is shaped by height, age, genetics, muscle mass, hormones, activity level, pregnancy history, medications, and overall health. That means two women can weigh the same and have very different bodies, risks, and needs.
According to Health, the average weight for women in the United States is about 170 pounds, with an average height of around 5 feet 3 inches. Weight often rises through midlife and may decrease later in older age because of changes in muscle, appetite, hormones, and activity. Still, the most important point is simple: average does not automatically mean ideal or healthy.
