The UK is entering July after an exceptional late-June heatwave that broke the national June temperature record on three consecutive days. The peak reached a provisional 37.3°C at Santon Downham in Suffolk on 26 June, while disruptive heat affected schools, NHS services, transport and airports.
The immediate heat is easing, but that does not settle the rest of summer. Seasonal guidance points to a greater-than-usual chance of hot conditions and further heatwaves, while stopping well short of predicting when, where or how intense another episode would be.
