A rare white-tailed eagle born in the wild in Dorset has vanished after its satellite tag stopped transmitting in the North York Moors. The bird, known as G834, was not just another tracked raptor: it was the first white-tailed eagle to be born in the wild in Dorset for 240 years.

North Yorkshire Police are now investigating, after analysis by the National Wildlife Crime Unit led the disappearance to be treated as suspicious. The young eagle arrived on the western side of the North York Moors on April 30, 2026, but its tag stopped communicating overnight into May 1 and has not transmitted since.
