Hot weather can change the risk profile of medicines people take every day. The concern is not that these treatments suddenly become unsafe for everyone, but that heat can strain the same body systems those drugs already affect: sweating, thirst, blood pressure, kidney function and temperature control.
GP Dr Hugh Coyne, co-founder of Coyne Medical, warned that several commonly prescribed medicines can make it harder for the body to cope in hot weather. The greatest concern, he said, is often in people taking more than one affected medicine, because the effects can build on each other.
