England and Scotland supporters travelling to Mexico for the 2026 World Cup have been warned that familiar match-day drinking habits could lead to fines or arrest. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office issued the guidance as tens of thousands of British fans prepared to move between the tournament’s three host countries.

The warning does not mean alcohol is banned in Mexico. Adults aged 18 and over can legally drink, but consuming alcohol in public spaces—including directly outside stadiums, restaurants and theatres—can bring serious consequences. The rules are especially important for supporters gathering before or after matches.
