British Tourists Warned After ‘Toe-Biting’ Fish Spotted in the Sea

British holidaymakers heading to Greece are being alerted to an invasive pufferfish whose powerful jaws can cause severe wounds. The reports concern the silver-cheeked toadfish, Lagocephalus sceleratus, now increasingly established in Greek waters.

The warning does not mean attacks on tourists are widespread. The immediate concern is recognising the species, avoiding contact and understanding why experts consider its expansion a growing safety, ecological and economic problem.
