The Department for Work and Pensions has declared the long-running migration from legacy benefits to Universal Credit officially complete. The final stage closed income-related Employment and Support Allowance and Housing Benefit for most working-age households from June 30, 2026.
However, the DWP Universal Credit rollout end does not mean every Housing Benefit or ESA payment has disappeared. Important exceptions remain, while transitional protection prevents many people from receiving less immediately after a correctly completed move.
