In a remote mountain region of Kazakhstan, a strange stone formation has become the kind of discovery that immediately invites mystery. Seen from the ground, it looks like a huge doorway cut into rock. Seen from above, through drone footage, its shape appears even more dramatic: a semi-circular opening rising from the mountainside, large enough to make nearby people look tiny.
The formation was reportedly found by explorers trekking through the Dzungarian Alatau mountain range, near the Kazakhstan-China border. It stands at about 6,500 feet above sea level and is estimated to be roughly 40 feet tall and 40 feet wide. The mystery is not that scientists have no possible explanation, but that its shape is so striking that it has pushed people to ask whether nature alone could really have made it.
