UK Households Warned Over £500 Fines Coming From June 29

UK households are being warned that some everyday neighbourhood offences could soon carry much bigger on-the-spot penalties. From June 29, 2026, councils will have the power to issue Fixed Penalty Notices of up to £500 for breaches linked to Public Spaces Protection Orders and Community Protection Notices.

The change comes through the Crime and Policing Act 2026 and affects anti-social behaviour issues such as dog fouling, public drinking where banned, and other conduct covered by local orders. The key point is that the £500 figure is a new maximum, not an automatic fine every council must charge.
