This Sleep Habit Could Be an Early Warning Sign of Dementia, Scientists Say

A noisy night does not always mean someone is simply having an intense dream. In some cases, shouting, laughing, grabbing, kicking, or acting out dreams during sleep can point to a recognised sleep condition that researchers are watching closely.

The condition is called isolated REM sleep behaviour disorder, or iRBD. A study reported by The Independent followed patients diagnosed with iRBD in Seoul, South Korea, for about seven years and found gradual cognitive decline in memory and attention-related areas, especially among men.
