New Law Comes Into Force for Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury’s Shoppers

A supermarket label can look simple, but it often decides whether shoppers really know what they are paying. A bigger pack is not always better value, a loyalty price is not always easy to compare, and a promotion can become confusing when the shelf edge gives more than one number.

That is why the updated Price Marking Order matters for shoppers at Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Lidl, Waitrose and other UK retailers. The reforms, in force from April 6, 2026, are designed to make selling prices and unit prices clearer in stores and online, especially when products come in different sizes or are sold under promotions.
