Britain’s future heatwaves may not feel like short bursts of unusual summer weather. They could become a force that changes how people live, work, travel, sleep, build homes, protect the elderly, and think about the seasons themselves.

The Met Office says climate change will make hot spells more frequent and severe, with the chance of exceeding 30°C for two days or more becoming much higher by 2070. In southern UK, that kind of hot spell could become sixteen times more frequent than it is today.
