Winter in Venice: A Local’s Guide to the City’s Quietest Season

Half a year in Venice has revealed to me the changing moods of the city. Summer brings crowds of people and noises, whereas winter gives a more pensive image of the lagoon. Mist drifts across canals. Sidewalks are a leisurely place. The preserved buildings are more alive when they are not always moved. During the time when the weather is not hot, the visitors get a chance to visit and observe Venice life in peace and harmony. Winter is an attractive season to travel because of seasonal customs, serene waterways and easier access to landmarks. The city is very real and has less overwhelming pleasures such as taking a serene stroll, local food, and culture which are easily overlooked when the season is in full swing.
