UK's 10 Most Popular Jobs – One Has an Average Salary of £61,000

The UK job market remains competitive, but “popular” does not always mean “highest paying.” A recent CV-Library analysis of applications per vacancy for Q4 2025 shows that the jobs attracting the most interest are a mix of well-paid specialist roles and more accessible positions with lower barriers to entry. At the same time, the broader labour market still has substantial hiring activity: the Office for National Statistics estimated 734,000 vacancies in the UK in October to December 2025, while total workforce jobs stood at about 36.6 million in September 2025.

What stands out is that salary is only part of the story. CV-Library’s data suggests that applicants are drawn not just to pay, but also to flexibility, stability, transferable skills, and the ability to enter a field quickly. That is why the ranking includes everything from software engineering to cleaning and delivery driving, with software engineer taking the top spot at an average advertised salary of £61,268.
