How boomers became the victim generation

The term “baby boomers” once carried associations of prosperity, stability, and cultural dominance. Born in the post-war period, this generation benefited from expanding economies, affordable housing, and relatively stable career paths. For decades, they were often framed as the most advantaged generation in modern history.

Yet in recent years, a different narrative has emerged. Increasingly, boomers are also described as a “victim generation”—not in the sense of lacking opportunity early on, but in how shifting economic, social, and cultural realities have reshaped their later years. This shift reflects a complex mix of expectations, disruptions, and changing societal attitudes.
