Supplements are often treated as harmless insurance: a multivitamin, vitamin D, magnesium, iron, probiotics and perhaps a herbal product added together. A Which? survey of 2,514 UK adults found that 76% used supplements, while 17% of users took four or more daily.

That does not make every routine dangerous. Targeted products can correct deficiencies or support specific life stages, but stacking them without checking doses, ingredients and medicines can create hidden risks.
