A Simple Test Reveals the True Age of Your Brain, Heart and Other Organs

A person’s birthday records how long they have lived, but it does not show how well each part of the body is holding up. New research suggests that organs can age at very different speeds inside the same person.

Led by Hamilton Oh and senior author Tony Wyss-Coray at Stanford Medicine, the underlying study was published in Nature Medicine on July 9, 2025, and highlighted again in June 2026. The researchers developed a blood-based method designed to estimate organ-specific biological age and examine its connection with future disease and mortality.
